Physician Assistant - Psychiatry

Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) is comprised of over 4,000 physicians and healthcare professionals who provide services to NYC Health + Hospitals (H+H), the largest public health system in the United States.

In partnership with NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi our teams accommodate more than 325,000 outpatient visits, more than 100,000 emergency room visits and over 20,000 inpatient admissions annually. NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi is renowned for The Trauma Center, staffed to treat any traumatic injury or illness, the fully accredited Breast Health Center, and The Burn Center, with more than 40 years of work in burn care. The hospital also serves patients with many other needs and maintains an academic affiliation with Albert Einstein Medical College of Yeshiva University.

Under the general supervision of a licensed and Board Certified/Board Eligible Psychiatrist, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Performing complete patient psychiatric examinations; ordering laboratory tests and x-rays; performing and/or interpreting laboratory and test results; and initiating treatments.
  • Writing appropriately authorized prescriptions including controlled substances.
  • May respond to initial requests for service-specific consultation as per the department scope of practice.
  • Initiating and/or participating in initial management and stabilization of patients, including psychiatric emergencies – Code Orange/Code White.
  • Utilizing de-escalation techniques to reduce restrictive interventions.
  • Conferring with attending physicians, residents, nursing staff, etc., to ensure delivery of optimum quality of patient care.
  • Regularly meeting with Supervising Physician and/or Physician Assistant and co-workers to keep them appraised of clinical developments, patient concerns, etc.
  • Arranging follow-up for patients, obtaining informed consents from patients for procedures, recalling patients for further evaluation and treatment.
  • Informing patients of necessary post-discharge instructions
  • Making appropriate entries in patient’s charts.
  • Performing other related functions as requested by supervising physician.

Qualifications include:

  • New York State Physician Assistant License
  • NCCPA Board Certification or Eligibility
  • DEA prescribing license
  • ACLS life support certification or eligible to obtain
  • Post-graduate (Masters’ Degree) preferred
